The Sealed Hold

Whatever goes into the hold is kept below decks. Here is what we store, and why.

What goes into the hold

  • Your berth: an email, a hashed password, a first name, birthday and gender, plus anything you choose to put in your berth.
  • Your crossings, and the short logbook each islander keeps so she can recall you.
  • Two cookies: one holds your session, one records the customs stamp.
  • Fare records: amount and reference. A card is never requested, so none is held.
  • Ordinary server logs, held briefly for safety.

What it is used for

To run the route, to apply the bylaws and to keep the harbour lit. Your messages pass through a model we host or one run by a provider tied to that work, and automated safety checks read them. No crossing is ever sold, and no advertiser reads one.

Counting the boats

A bare counter tallies arrivals by country. It has no way into a crossing.

What you control

Inside a chat's menu you can correct her log of you, keep a copy of the crossing or strike it. To close the berth and everything in it, send word from your registered email. If your own law gives you further rights, name them and we will honour them.
